  • Emery board. It is usually best to use a fine-graded emery board which will not damage the nails. The best way to shape nails - the rough side is for shortening the nail, the smooth for final shaping and smoothing.
  • Orange and hoof sticks are generally used for pushing back softened cuticles and cleaning under nails. Don't forget attach a small amount of absorbent cotton to the orange stick to make it a gentler tool.
  • Cuticle cream or oil. Softens cuticles, helping keep them neat and less prone to hangnails. Used regularly, itwill also help nails grow through more healthily.
  • Cuticle remover. Cuticle remover is used to loosen and lift off any excess, dry cuticle from the nail plate.
  • Nail oils. Help hydrate and strengthen nails - look for those with almond oil, or try oil of elemi for ultimate strengthening. Use them nightly to condition your nails and promote growth. They can also help to prevent unsightly cracks developing around the sides of the nails, which may cause hang nails.
  • Nail scissors or clippers. Always cut your nails when they are hard, and not when you have soaked them in warm water, which will cause them to split. Nail clippers are the best way to cut toenails and fingernails. Cut straight across.
  • Topcoat. Used over nail polish to help prolong the life of a manicure and pedicure. Topcoat complete the finishing touch and give nails a smooth, glassy sheen and an ultraglossy shine. They protect the nail enamel from chipping.
  • Nail polish. It helps protect the nails from breaking or bending.
  • Nail polish remover. Should be acetone-free to prevent nails from drying.
